Safeguarding Course and DBS Checks

Courses

There has been concern of late about the number of courses – including Play It Safe and First Aid that are being cancelled. I really would like to know what issues you may have had when trying to get a course booked and delivered. I know we had a period – post lock down, when we had fewer tutors available to deliver, but that is improving. So can you let me know what problems you have been having please.

RFU DBS Update Service

This has been available to our volunteers with RFU DBS clearances for a couple of seasons now. Currently not a lot of information on the RFU website but I include below some information from Chris Rawlings. If ever you need help with DBS issues – he is the person to contact – chrisrawlings@rfu.comSubscribing to the DBS Update Service allows staff/volunteers to maintain their DBS certificate on our system. By consenting to RFU monitoring and the individual remaining in the same workforce (e.g., working with children) while keeping their annual subscription (volunteers are exempt), they may avoid the need for a new DBS application during their England Rugby involvement. Without subscribing to the DBS Update Service, staff/volunteers will need to renew their DBS application every three years, involving presenting ID documents and completing an online form with address history, etc. If you have not seen it already, the RFU ran a DBS webinar at the beginning of last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8686I8VVN8U – there is information about the Update Service at 39 minutes of DBS webinar. Following this webinar, the RFU provided a Q&A document (attached), for which there is an extensive part covering answers to questions about the Update Service and covers what it is and how it operates.
Should you have any questions in relation to this matter, please contact the RFU at dbseapp@rfu.com.The webinar has extensive information about the DBS process so is worth a watch, especially if you are new to the Safeguarding role. I have attached links to both the webinar and the document referenced. One thing to remember – the update is only available for a relatively short time after the DBS process has been completed by an individual. They need to sign up as soon as they receive their ‘certificate’
