| KEITH Kent, the RFU head groundsman at Twickenham Stadium, will spend the next three days making emergency visits to some of the rugby clubs who have been affected by the recent flooding across England.Even though he is in a particularly busy period, between home RBS Six Nations matches for England against Ireland and Wales, Kent will take time to offer practical advice and support to some of the clubs whose pitches have been submerged under flood water.
Kent will begin his club visits on Tuesday February 25 in Bath at Avon RFC and he will then travel to to see the flood damage at Bromyard RFC in Herefordshire and Stourport-on-Severn in Worcestershire. On Wednesday February 26 Kent will start the day at Eton Manor RFC in Wanstead followed by a visit to Romford and Gidea Park RFC, another Essex club. His day will end in Kent at Tonbridge Juddians RFC. Kent’s final day of visits to flood-damaged concludes on February 27 when he will advise officials at Weybridge Vandals in Surrey, Portsmouth RFC in Hampshire and Wallingford RFC in Oxford. All the clubs that Kent will visit have been identified by the RFU’s team of Area Facilities Managers as being in need of support. Keith Kent is regarded as one of the leading sports groundsmen in the country having spent 15 years as head groundsman at Manchester United’s Old Trafford football stadium and the past 11 years in charge of the turf at Twickenham Stadium. Kent’s expertise and advice are much sought-after and his regular pitchcare workshops at rugby clubs across the country are hugely popular. |
