4 U18’s North Midlands Women are selected for the England squad to play in Prague this weekend:
- Eva Wood – Old Halesonians RFC
- Evelyn Clarke – Worcester RFC
- Isobel McGuire Evans – Telford Hornets RFC
- Millie Hyett (reserve) – Worcester RFC
Head coach James Cooper has named a 12-player squad to play in the Rugby Europe U18 Sevens Championship in Prague (23 and 24 July).
All matches will be played at Rugby Klub Petrovice and will be streamed live on rugbyeurope.eu. The competition is made up of three pools of three teams each. All teams then progress into another pool depending on results before final matches to determine the top three and places four to nine. England have been drawn in Pool B and will face Portugal and Czech Republic.
Lauren Bailey, Evelyn Clarke, Connie Clarke, Isobel McGuire-Evans and Eva Wood are selected after impressing at Centre of Excellence talent identification training and festivals. Olivia Constable will captain the side and Lucy Thorpe is vice-captain. Cooper said: “We’re really looking forward to heading to Prague. It has been incredibly tough to narrow down the group to the selected players. I feel these 12 players offer us the balance of positions required for a sevens tournament.“It is also exciting to name five players in the squad who were identified from the Centre of Excellence and didn’t feature for England U18 15s this season. This is further demonstration of the multiple entry points and different rates of development within the game.”
