North Midlands Social Rugby Playing Offer 2024/2025

The Programme

Aimed at supporting the retention of players from within the lowest level team of the clubs involved.

This programme is targeted at those teams who may have small player numbers, or an excess of players needing an opportunity for an enjoyable run about on a semi regular basis.

The events can be flexible and shaped to fit numbers on the day. A fun and enjoyable experience for players is key with the ‘rugby family’ supporting each other at the heart of the event. Dates, hosts and attending teams are shown on page 2 of this document.

The programme may also provide an appropriate environment for the transition of ‘colts’ into adult rugby, should any 17 year olds be included Age Grade Regulation 15.6 Playing Adult Rugby must be adhered to at all times.

Format

Aim is to play 15 a side rugby, applying Game On options where appropriate. Some ideas on shaping your event are listed below:

  • ‘Mixed’ (2 or 3 clubs joining together) team/s being created to play a 15 aside game.
  • Triangular/Four way fixtures
    • 3/4 teams – each team plays 2/3 20-40 minute games.
    • If teams are short on player numbers, teams can merge to play 1 x 15 a-side (or as close to as possible) game.
    • One referee can be used for the event should they be ok to do so.
  • Festival – invite extra teams along and play more, shorter games

Funding & Hosting Expectations

There will be funding available to support hosting and enhancing the players’ experience. This will be administered by the North Midlands RFU. Host clubs will need to submit an invoice to Roger Parsons (North Midlands Hon Treasurer) roger.parsons@cedarcourt.net following the event, to receive the monies.

In return, the host club will lead on organising and delivering their event. The host club will also email JonCritchlow@RFU.com with the games played, results, player numbers and clubs attending (plus any other relevant information). We also ask the host club to publish at least one social media post & photo(s) to celebrate everyone coming together and enjoying themselves. (A big player group photo at the end is ideal!)

Feel free to use #gameon #playtogetherstaytogether and tag the other clubs into your social media post too.
